Early in the 20th century, The Francis Scott Key Hotel was built on the corner of Court Street and West Patrick Street. It was a grand, five-story brick structure with a candy store and news stand on the first floor.

Today the hotel is refurbished apartment building with 46 updated modern residences. On the first floor and lower levels there are several businesses and offices, including a coffee shop and the MET, The Maryland Ensemble Theater.
