This is the reconstructed home of Civil War heroine, Barbara Fritchie, who was immortalized by John Greenleaf Whittier’s poem “The Ballad of Barbara Fritchie” for confronting troops during the Civil War. Tours of the house and garden are available.  Memorabilia from the period.  Personal letter from John Greenleaf Whittier stating the validity of Barbara Fritchie’s act.
